What is a Blog?

Definition of Blog

(Source: Wikipedia)

A blog (name changed from weblog) is a discussion or an informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-styled text entries(posts). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the page. Until 2009, blogs were usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject or topic. In the 2010s, multi-author blogs(MABs) emerged featuring the writing of multiple authors and sometimes professionally edited.

Still confused, don't worry. Let me explain to you with a simple definition:
A blog is a type of website handled by an individual or a group of people, that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent posts at the top of the main page to the older one at the bottom. It can be a single topic or multi-topic (Your Choice!).

Usually, a blog (not always) is written by one person on a particular topic and is updated regularly. Blogs can be written on any topic you can think of. From gaming to spirituality, to movies, to guides, to personal diaries.

Purpose of a Blog

The major purpose of creating a blog is to connect with the online world and your relevant audience. Another purpose is to boost your business or income.

A blog is done the best and effective way to express your personal views on a particular topic. Most of the bloggers express there views and opinions on some topics they are interested in.

Blogs can be used to share personal experiences, hobbies, daily feelings as an online diary of the blogger.

Blogging for business or projects has a very straightforward purpose - to get more clients, to rank your website in Google SERPs. Many businesses have found blogging as an efficient resource to communicate with their potential customers. Without blogging, a business will be invisible to the people and therefore missing a huge opportunity to attract people from all over the world.

Hence blogging provide you the opportunity to enhance your business, to get the attention of your potential customers, making you searchable.

There's also a huge number of individual bloggers who create and use their blog to make money💰 through monetization.

All over this, a blog allows you to make an authority site in your niche and build a brand around it.

As an outline, the following are the points which describe the purposes of a blog:
  1. Share your message
  2. Personal branding
  3. Creating leads to grow business and brand
  4. Blogging as a business.

Who is known as a Blogger?

Definition of Blogger

Anyone who writes a blog post, add images in or create a video blog/website is known as a blogger. Defining it more simply will sound like anyone who does blogging on his blog or website is known as a blogger. He/she runs and controls a blog and share his/her knowledge, experiences, opinion, and views on different(any) topics.

How Bloggers Get Paid?

If you are a blogger(like me) then most probably you start the blog for two reasons,
  1. to create a personal brand in your areas of interest
  2. to make passive income through the blog
The second one is a bit more popular and there is nothing wrong with it. Almost everyone starts blogging to earn money.

But to make passive income through your blog posts must be always visible at the top of the search results page. For improving search engine visibility you will need a strong SEO for your website.

I will post a full detailed GUIDE of SEO in near future, so don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter to never miss any update.

Now if you have a good SEO and good search engine ranking then the following are the ways you can make money through blogging:

how bloggers earn money - blogging guide for beginners

  • AdSense: Once approved for AdSense and you will be able to set ads on your blog. The more visitors and click you get, the more you get paid from Google. It's just that simple.
  • Affiliate Marketing: In this system, you earn commission or money for making your blog/ website users do some simple tasks like filling up a form, signing on a site, or maybe a survey, that depends on the seller(what he wants). You can also earn a commission for each and every sale you generate for your affiliate program seller through your blog/website. Now, who is this affiliate program seller? It can be anyone from all around the world. What to have to do for earning money from affiliate marketing is to join any of these platforms that suit you best and start promoting.

Here's a small list of affiliate program you can join:
  1. Amazon Affiliate
  2. JvZoo
  3. eBay
  4. ShareAsale
Other than these, if you are a blogger(which you are) then you surely are using a domain(by GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.), hosting(by Bluehost, Siteground, etc.) and some paid plugins(like SemRush, etc.) for your blog. You know you can also promote each of these services and can earn a huge amount of commission.

Now you are most likely to be asking, How to promote these products and services? Don't worry I will make you learn in near future but for now, I am working on a blogging course. Wait, want to know more about Affiliate Marketing

Read this post,
  • Sponsored posts: Let's understand it with an example, suppose you have built an authority(trustworthy) site in your niche. Now I have a product or service to sell that is connected to the same niche you are blogging in then to get a more targeted audience I will reach out to you and will pay you to write a blog post around my product or service. In this way, I get more potential customers as your targeted audience and you will get the money to publish the post. That's a Win-Win situation for both. The sponsored post can generate huge revenue for the authority side but first, build an authority site.😊
  • Sell your own product/services: You can create your own e-book course for your users or you can come up with your very own merchandise. That totally depends on you.
But remember you will need your own ecosystem (as I said before) of customers to successfully sell e-book, courses, and merchandise. So first try to create your ecosystem of users by giving away valuable courses for free. Don't hustle for money first, if so you will end up with nothing at last.

So work with Patience, Consistency, and Perseverance to firstly build a trustworthy site in your niche ( the same line used earlier).

Why You Should Start Blogging Today?

This is one of the most asked questions about blogging for a starter.

"Why I should start blogging from now?"

Well only you know the exact answer but still, I will try my best to answer this question in the following points

1. Knowledge Sharing: Most of the bloggers start their blog to share knowledge, Knowledge is the base. Whenever anybody starts a blog, he/she need to research its niche, SEO. So basically this anybody (like you and me) want knowledge and bloggers want to share knowledge, as I am sharing with you now.

                              No doubt, "Sharing is Caring".

2. Personal Branding/Business Advertisement: There are a lot of people who started blogging for fame and many of them get it too. But if you will read their case studies, you will find that it was not a short and easy journey but a long journey full of hurdles that need lots and lots of effort to clear. So don't join blogging if you 're wishing for quick fame (in my advice).

Now talking about business then,

There's no doubt that the online community is vast or said to boundless. You can find as possible people you want and that's why it's an awesome platform for advertising your products.

You can make your customers aware of your new launches and can provide them the demo across the globe.

You can even (absolutely) change your potential customers into your regular customers by applying the right marketing strategies.

It's again not an easy and will need your dedication to achieve your goal.

Remember, passion forms blogging.

3. Making Money: Passion forms blogging, that's true and the same passion applied with efforts cum patience, consistency and perseverance can pay you a decent amount of money.

There are many ways you can earn from and I have mentioned it earlier in this blog.
                                    "Don't skip the blog"

These are some of the basic reasons for which you should start blogging today,  but it's not enough. Let's get our eyes over some of the statics of Blogging:

  • Each month approximately 409 million people view more than 20 billion pages.
  • The number of bloggers in the USA is expected to grow to 31.7 million in 2020.
  • There are more than 500 million blogs that exist in 2019.
  • Blogging has grown by 12% since 2015
  • There are roughly 1.9 billion web pages. Judging by the growth rate, we will be hitting 2 billion in less than a year.
  • 57% of marketers say that have gained customers specifically through blogging.
